New Light @ The 2011 District Convention
by dontplaceliterature in" at the bottom of the image on the back of the invitation raises some eyebrows, but last night in the routine district convention article during the service meeting, i caught that one of the paragraphs mentioned that we would be encouraged to keep a copy of the tract in hand for a discussion during sunday's last talk.
my guess is, there is going to be some new revelation about what the "?
" represents, or some other fangled idea.

godrulz, your suspicions are right. If they so much as get a wiff that you might be "interested" they will hound you for the rest of your days. You might do better to just buy used ones off of Amazon or ebay or something.

Roger Waters The Wall last year. Melted my face. It was practically a religious event for me.

Shelby, how are you feeling, m'lady?
I remember the JW girl who was the target of that ill-begotten pickup line simply laughing and walking away.

They're still dry humping Freddie's ideas....
Such poetry, Cheez. Gold, sir.
I, too, wish to express my solidarity with Zoiks as pertains to his comment. The conventions are essentially pep rallies, as all their doctrine and "NuLight" are dispensed in their flagship publication, McCall'sThe Watchtower.

Apocalypse WOW
by Mr. Falcon inafter looking at the latest 2011 "god's gonna cut you down" district convention invite, i found myself getting a strange and familiar feeling.
back when i was mentally in the borg, i used to actually get a bit intimidated by the "fire & brimstone" message on these things.
and now that i've mentally unshackled myself, i am beginning to see the deep-seated psychological effect that a lifetime of dogma has infused in me.

LW - thank you for that information!
LG, Picard & JeffT - thank you for those links. I don't feel so silly now for worrying. Sometimes we think we are stronger and above certian things, but then our old ghost come back to haunt you.
We may be through with the past, but the past ain't through with us....
Palm - Thanks, love!

It really doesn't get more debonair than that.
Thanks, Cheez. Strangely, that line has never once gotten me laid.
This reminds me of the "meat market" on the upper levels of the District conventions of yesteryear. Now I've never personally made any passes at the JW ladies up there (I wasn't always the Don Juan DeFalcon that I am today, as hard as that is to believe), but I have heard some whoppers. For instance:
JW dude (leaning on railing): Hey girl, you dropped something!
JW gal (walking by): What? I didn't drop anything.
JW dude: Well, then why don't you come over here and pick up this conversation with me...

After looking at the latest 2011 "God's Gonna Cut You Down" District Convention invite, I found myself getting a strange and familiar feeling. Back when I was mentally in the Borg, I used to actually get a bit intimidated by the "fire & brimstone" message on these things. And now that I've mentally unshackled myself, I am beginning to see the deep-seated psychological effect that a lifetime of dogma has infused in me. Such demons are not so easily shaken, it seems.
Mr. Falcon will grab you and say,
"Do you know that 'if' is the middle word in 'life'?
The result is that even this invite makes me feel a little on edge. I even ashamedly admit that a tiny, tiny part of me is rationalizing, "What if the JWs are right? I'm going to die!" Go ahead and laugh, I'll wait....
Done yet? Good. So after this little embarrassing moment of mental relapse, I began to wonder if Jehovah's Witnesses are unique in their apocalyptic babblings. One thing that always sort of brought me mental-soundness was when I stepped back and realized that many practices that JWs do actually aren't that much nuttier or stranger than any other "Christian" religion. For example, the Catholic church has clergy and confession. JWs have elders and judicial committees. The point is that although JWs try to act like they are completely unique in "True Worship", they are basically structured like any other religious organization.
So, I was wondering, as I am wholly ignorant to the countless faiths that exist today - Are there any other major religions right now who have similiar apocalyptic doctrine regarding things such as the "Last Days" or "Daniel's naked beard guy dream statue"?
Help ease a wearied mind.

the max - Madame Falcon is a wonderful woman but not exactly a "thinker". Not that she's stupid or anything, it's just that she is what I kind of refer to as an "agnostic JW" meaning that she doesn't really bother thinking about the deeper issues/contridictions, but at the same time she won't really defend the WTBS. She simply doesn't care. But she loves me for some reason. Silly girl.
badseed - So true, my friend! When I first started lurking on here, you guys would post stuff and then 3 weeks later they would announce it at the meeting. Mr. Falcon was blown away.
